Combat Blue Monday by Keeping a Positive Mindset and Your Mind Focused

January is often a trying time for most people, let alone small businesses! In the aftermath of Christmas we often experience a variety of negative feelings.

We can feel sluggish form eating and drinking too much. And if today is anything to go by it is generally to grey and miserable to get out and exercise! The weather generally doesn’t help either, we need a new source of Vitamin D!

We may have spent too much money over Christmas and don’t have much money coming in. People generally stop spending out of panic in January, which never helps us small businesses! But, there isn’t much we can do about it except to stay calm!

Today is actually known as Blue Monday because it is the day of the year where people feel most down and depressed. What’s the trick to combat this? Well I think only you can answer that 100% but I can give you some tips.

This may be easier said than done but try and keep a positive mindset. It is so easy to switch to the negative because that is our natural instinct, but when this happens, try and write a list of the things to be happy about! Concentrate on the amazing things in your life and what you have to be grateful for.

Focus on tasks. By keeping your mind focussed you’re less likely to procrastinate and feel low. I like to spend January planning for an amazing year and setting goals that excite me about the possibilities for the year to come. I have had low January’s before but now I spend them in a state of sheer excitement!

Treat yourself, this can help in keeping your mind positive and focused. Reward yourself with something little at the end of everyday which can build up at the end of the week and grow even more by the end of the month – woohoo, you made it!! Great reward ideas that don’t cost a fortune? Bubble Baths, Glass of Wine, Bar of Galaxy Chocolate, Netflix.

Exercise is also a great way to stay positive and focused. Join a gym boot-camp for January or try to run a certain amount of miles in the month (I am going for 100!). It doesn’t have to be painful, make it enjoyable and start the year right. Get those endorphin’s flowing!
