International Women’s Day Derby

International Women’s Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.

Since the early 1900’s we have been celebrating IWD and using it as a call for gender parity. Many organizations declare an annual IWD theme that supports their specific agenda or cause, and some of these are adopted more widely with relevance than others.

Derby are fortunate enough to have their own voluntary IWD group who host an annual event every year to mark the global celebration. This year, Derby are celebrating specifically the Rebel Women of past generations to mark 100 years of the female vote thanks to the Suffragettes.

International Women’s Day is all about unity, celebration, reflection, advocacy and action – whatever that looks like globally at a local level and it is growing from strength to strength.

We are lucky enough to have Vanessa Boon, voluntary chair of IWD Derby speaking at our event tomorrow (March 1st) and we can’t wait to hear what she has to say!

You will also find us at the International Women’s Day Derby festival on the 10th March. Come by and say hello, we will be running competitions and talking about how we can support you as a woman in business.

Have a think how you can get involved this March to inspire the women around you to live their best life, how you can raise awareness of the issues affecting women and girls worldwide and celebrate the achievements of women.

We have an article being published in the magazine for IWD Derby which we will share with you soon, about the Rebel Women close to some of The Diamond Initiative’s members – our mothers.

It’s not too late to book a ticket for tomorrow’s event but if you think you might miss it, download our free guide (below) and sign up to our newsletter so receive information about our next event straight into your inbox!
